The “Unequal Opportunity of Race” is a powerful video, which visually underscores the horrors of structural racism.

wtf is ethnic?
Ha! I once destroyed someone with awkwardness when I countered that with, “Are you saying I look white, but not totally white?”. I actually felt kind of bad for her as she sputtered incoherently, but then, when I told her I was Metis, she pulled the, “Really? You don’t look it” so I no longer gave any fucks about how awkward she might have felt.
“Shit White Girls Say…to Black Girls”
SOBBING INTO MY ARMS
HEARD EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM
OH MY FUCK
OMGZ love this so much. I have pretty much heard these throughout my life and it’s awesome that someone finally put them in a video! “you don’t act like you’re black”…..uh is that suppose to be a compliment
Also, my mind is always boggled how people can hate Tara, who is fesity, funny and totally badass, and yet love Sookie, who only makes (irritatingly bad) decisions based on which guy she is boning at the time. Frankly, I think the writers abuse both these characters — in Tara’s case, by making her life HORRIBLE ALL THE TIME, and in Sookie’s case, by robbing her of any and all of the spunk, intelligence, and strength she used to have when the series premiered.
Can I just put this here? I never thought I would have to have to say this, about YOU of all people. But when you say “I don’t see race/colors” I will side eye you to death.
When you say ”I don’t see race/colors”, I don’t hear
- I try not to actively use my privilege
- I will listen to you when you are upset over race issues
- Our society is structured to make me see race and I will actively try not to think negatively about your race
- I’m white and I don’t want to be labeled racist
- I’m a good person.
- I am using my white privilege to deny race so I don’t have to hear about your experiences with racism
- I’m erasing you.
- I’m racist.
Go fuck yourself.
Caption: Students Kritz Eliza and Taylor Matzen, dressed as American Indians, participate during a bake sale led by the Berkeley College Republicans Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at the University of California campus in Berkeley, Calif. The Berkeley College Republicans have scheduled a bake sale where the price of a cookie or a brownie depends on your gender and the color of your skin. The price of a baked good costs $2 for white people, $1.50 if you’re Asian, $1 for Latinos, 75 cents for African-Americans and 25 cents for Native Americans. Women get a discount of 25 cents. From SFgate.com
Wow. White girls in headdresses, participating in the bake sale. Are they trying to get free cookies or what? This is the insensitivity supported by the UC Berkeley Campus Republicans and their bake sale. From the article:
The Republican students said offering more expensive pastries to white students and less expensive ones to students of other ethnicities illustrated the injustice of any division by race. A few feet away from the bake sale, opposing groups held a “Conscious Cupcakes” giveaway, handing out their own treats for free. And around midday, hundreds of people dressed in black laid down in Sproul Plaza, silently demonstrating their support of SB185.
This come from the opposition to a bill that would allow California’s universities to consider race and ethnicity as one of many factors, like extra-curriculars, in college admissions. The bill would still ban admission based entirely on race or ethnicity.
<sarcasm> Here’s something more honest: How about you still charge the white guy $2.00 for the cookie, give him $3 to buy it, and then let him punch the Native American students in order to steal their cookies, screaming “MANIFEST DESTINY, ASSHOLES!” triumphantly? After that, how about the African-American students are forced to clean up after the bake sale, as the Campus Republicans sip mint juleps and supervise? Is that more honest? </sarcasm>
I don’t support throwing the baked goods at them, nor screaming obscenities. I do absolutely love the steps taken by the Harry Potter student group, selling “enchanted Costco muffins,” for “Two galleons to pure bloods” and “Eight sickles to muggles.”
This is hands down the most disgusting image from today.
“Hate” is a strong word, but not quite strong enough for how I feel about all of this.

I still cannot believe this…..people are so silly/ignorant. srsly people thought this was a GOOD idea and wouldn’t be criticized for it. god
….I would be mad if it didn’t get me free cupcakes.
I’d go and take all their fucking cupcakes and let them know that because of our “post-racial” society, this is the only handout I’m ever going to get. Employers will continue not to hire people like me, people will continue to attack people like me, “post-racial” history will continue to erase people like me, and ignorant fucking shitbags will continue to get to say whatever they want about people like me and have other privileged jerks not only let them do it, but applaud them for it. So yeah, poor, “oppressed” white males, you best believe I’ll take your fucking cupcakes for me, because this “post-racial” society that conforms to you and your ignorance is never going to let me have anything else without paying for it with my life.
